It’s here again, CollAction’s slow fashion summer!
A few years back, CollAction launched the Slow Fashion Summer: if 10.000 people committed to not buying new clothes for 3 months, we’d all not buy new things!
The reason for this initiative is to draw attention to the devastating impact of fashion on the environment. Did you know that the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world? If 10.000 people would not buy new clothing for an entire summer, it would save up to 360 million liters of water, and prevent 1.4 million kilograms of CO2 being emitted. As a consumer, you have the power to change the industry for the better.
This year, Slow Fashion Summer looks a little different. Because of Coronavirus, many sustainable brands are struggling. So, instead of encouraging 25.000 people (a new goal!) to not buy anything for 3 months, CollAction wants to encourage people to only buy sustainably! This year’s focus is on making conscious choices, and thinking twice before you buy.
If you like your numbers: if 25.000 people participate, this year’s slow fashion summer will save up to 750 million liters of water, and 2,5 million kg’s of CO2 emissions!
What does conscious and sustainable shopping entail? It’s not limited to only buying from sustainable brands. It also means buying second-hand and vintage, trading or upcycling your clothes, making them yourselves, or swapping with friends. Renting your clothes is also a very sustainable option that allows you to rotate your wardrobe regularly. Want to encourage friends and family to participate with this year’s slow fashion summer? Gift them the Sustainable Fashion Gift Card!
